The charism of the Brothers of Our Lady of Lourdes is centered on education, formation of youth, and compassionate service to those in need, reflecting dedication to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through practical works of mercy. Inspired by Our Lady of Lourdes, their mission emphasizes teaching, care of the sick and vulnerable, technical training, and community outreach, all carried out in a spirit of prayer, simplicity, and brotherly fraternity. Their spirituality also includes commitment to service, solidarity with the poor, and living out the evangelical counsels in daily life and ministry.
The Brothers of Our Lady of Lourdes were founded in 1830 in Belgium by Father Étienne-Modeste Glorieux, who sought to serve the needs of young people and the disadvantaged through education and care. The congregation received pontifical approval from Pope Leo XIII in 1892, confirming its status as a religious institute of pontifical right. Over the years, the brothers expanded their mission beyond Europe and established communities in countries around the world, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Ethiopia, and Brazil, where they have been involved in schools, technical training centers, healthcare ministries, and formation programs.
