The charism of the Oblate Sisters is to live and share the gentle spirit of St. Francis de Sales, embracing humility, charity, and devotion to God and neighbor. They dedicate themselves to education, parish and youth ministries, social outreach, and missionary work, witnessing Christ’s love through service and community life.

Origins in France:
The congregation was founded on October 30, 1868, in Troyes, France, by Saint Léonie Aviat and Blessed Father Louis Brisson. Rooted in the Salesian spiritual tradition, the sisters sought to bring the message of gentle love, humility, and compassion to a world in need of faith and hope. Their work soon expanded beyond France as they responded to the Church’s call for missionary outreach.
Growth and Mission:
From its beginnings, the Oblate Sisters became an international community serving in education, parish ministry, youth formation, and social service. Over time, they established communities in South America, Africa, and other parts of the world, living out their charism in diverse cultural settings and strengthening the Church’s mission through compassionate presence and evangelizing outreach.
