Main Stream: Resurrection
The charism of the Resurrectionists centers on witnessing to the Paschal Mystery of Christ—that is, the passage from death to life through Jesus’ Resurrection. They believe that God’s unfailing love and invitation to personal resurrection in union with Christ shapes their communal life and mission, calling them to conversion, brotherhood, prayer, witness, and service so that others may experience hope, justice, truth, and love. Rooted in the conviction that the Risen Christ transforms lives and society, the Resurrectionists live together as brothers and serve in parishes, schools, and other ministries as signs of hope and renewal.
The Congregation of the Resurrection was founded on February 17, 1836, in Paris, France, by Bogdan Jański, Piotr Semenenko, and Hieronim Kajsiewicz amidst the Polish Great Emigration. Inspired by a desire to renew society through the hope of Christ’s Resurrection, the first members professed vows in the catacombs of St. Sebastian in Rome on Easter Sunday, March 27, 1842. Over time the community received formal recognition as a religious congregation, expanded internationally, and established itself in numerous countries across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and beyond. Today the Resurrectionists serve in places including Tanzania, where they are involved in formation and parish ministry.
