Charism

The ALCP/OSS is a community of priests called to live out the missionary spirit of the Risen Lord and the continual action of the Holy Spirit (“Opus Spiritus Sancti”), with a special emphasis on Easter‑Pentecost spirituality. Their life and mission are marked by priestly service, missionary outreach, fraternal community life, and responsiveness to the needs of the Church wherever the mission demands, embracing the call to proclaim Christ and serve all people.

Short History

The Apostolic Life Community of Priests in the Opus Spiritus Sancti (ALCP/OSS) was founded in 1974 in the Diocese of Moshi, Tanzania by Fr. Bernhard Bendel as part of the broader Opus Spiritus Sancti federation of communities. From its beginnings in Tanzania, the community grew with a strong missionary identity, establishing houses and ministries both in Tanzania and internationally, and remaining deeply rooted in the spirituality of the Holy Spirit and Easter‑Pentecost renewal. Over the decades, ALCP/OSS priests have been appointed to significant pastoral roles within the Church, including several Tanzanian bishops, and the society continues to train and form priests in its formation house in Morogoro and other locations, committed to mission work, pastoral care, and service to local Churches.
